The cold wave tightened its grip over the state today and icy winds have brought the day and night temperatures several notches below normal in the Jammu region.
Dense fog hits air, rail travel in JammuJammu recorded the season’s coldest day today with the temperature plummeting nearly 9 degrees below normal. The day temperature was 9.3°C in Jammu, while the minimum temperature stood at 5.6°C — nearly 1.5°C below normal.
The Meteorological Department said the people would continue to reel under icy conditions for another week as there were bleak chances of improvement in foggy weather.
Meanwhile, dense fog and haze affected the air and rail traffic, forcing the Railways and aviation authorities to reschedule the timing of trains and flights to and from the city.
“The IndiGo flight on the Delhi-Jammu-Delhi section was cancelled due to foggy weather and poor visibility, while three other flights landed several hours behind schedule. The first flight, which was scheduled to arrive at 9 am, landed at 2 pm, while two other flights, one each of Jet and Air India, also landed at the Jammu airport behind schedule,” said a senior official at the Jammu airport, adding that a total of 15 flights operate from the Jammu airport daily.
The Railways authorities said the rail traffic was affected due to foggy weather and most of trains were running behind schedule.
